Radyr Cricket Club

10 wicket wins again for the 2nd and 3rd teams

1st X1

RCC 1st X1 suffered a disappointing defeat at home to Pontypridd CC on Saturday, having put themselves in a strong position to take maximum points from the game.

Winning the toss and electing to field, RCC had Pontypridd in trouble at the halfway point, with the away team all out for 135 in 36.1 overs. Some excellent bowling performances including 3-43 from James Cady, Mandy 2-32, Nicko 2-6 off 4 and a brilliant spell from Rhodri Lewis who finished with figures of 3-9 off 6.1, which included 4 maidens.

Unfortunately in response early wickets cost the home team, falling to 27-3. A partnership of 38 between Huw (27) and Jonty (21) looked to get them back on track however wickets fell regularly, leaving RCC at 103ao and losing by 32 runs.

Radyr 5 points and Ponty 16. Abergavenny CC home next for the 1st X1.

2nd X1

RCC 2nd X1 recorded another superb 10 wicket win, this time away at Pontypridd’s Ynysangharad Park. Ben O’Neil backed up his maiden RCC century last time out with an excellent 92no, with Skipper Clegg closing on 69no in a stand of 172.

Cleggy had led the bowlers earlier on in restricting Ponty to 170-9, taking 2-23 from 9, with Fordy working his way through the middle overs and batsmen for yet another jug avoidance, finishing with figures of 4-27 from his 9. Matty Tyler also contributed with a tight spell including 4 maidens (2-20). Radyr 19 points and Ponty 3. Abergavenny CC away next for the 2nds.

3rd X1

Gump’s 3rd X1 recorded their third 10 wicket win of the season on Saturday this time chasing down 108 against the Welsh Asians in just 14.3 overs!

With Tamos away for the week it gave others a chance to bat, and Ed Richmond stepped up to open and finished with 80 not out! Alun Williams again providing the support unbeaten on 27.

It was a remarkable spell of bowling which put RCC in such a strong position, as Gwyn Morris took 4-3 in just 2 overs. Jack Davies 3-24 (9) and Rob Lankshear 2-14 (9) also finished with impressive figures.

26 points for RCC and 1 point for the Welsh Asians. Another great winner for the team.
