RCC Ladies inaugural hard ball game

The last Sunday in August, 2020 was a special day in the life of Radyr CC, as it was the inaugural game of the Ladies team who became only the third hard ball side in Wales. The photographs capture the day perfectly, with the squad lined up before the start of the game against Briton Ferry Steel CC. The next photograph shows Lydia Clements, the team’s captain, acknowledging the crowd when she reached her 50. The final one is the first ball bowled by a Radyr player in what turned out to be a comprehensive 75 run win. Thanks must go to Tony Butlin, who started the girls/ladies band wagon rolling all those years ago and Becky Thomas and Emma Clegg who have driven this concept on to fruition. Over half of the squad originated from RCC and show the benefit of developing young cricketers from within. Here’s to the 2021 season and the showcasing of the club in a full league programme
