All five of the weekend’s league fixtures failed either to start or finish due to the wet weather of last week and the monsoon conditions that enveloped south Wales on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. All three games at Radyr, the Firsts against Croesyceiliog, the Fourths against Christchurch IIs and our Sunday League game against Cardiff Cobras were cancelled without a ball being bowled. The two away games did start with the Seconds at Lisvane reaching 222 all out off the last ball of the 45th over (Alex Bywater 42, Iwan Llewellyn 36, Dave Skirrow 33, Karl Ford 31 and Ceiri Rowlands 29) and the home side reaching 25 for 1 off 8 overs when the game was abandoned. The Thirds visited the Cathedral School to play Welsh Asians IIIs and winning the toss decided to bat. Unfortunately we subsided to 12 for 4 and then 32 for 5 before ending with a total of 113 all out (Gwyn Morris 48, Simon Walters 16 and Adam Khattick 15). Whilst this didn’t seem competitive some excellent bowling by Rob Lankshear (9 overs 1 – 15) and Mike Richards (7 overs 3 – 19) left our opponents at drinks on 56 for 4. The game could have gone either way but the rain meant an abandonment was the only result.
