It was a memorable weekend for RCC as all 4 teams recorded victories with some brilliant performances, making it the most successful Saturday of the season so far, with celebrations going on long into the night at the club.
The first team caused a huge upset at home by beating league leaders Blackwood Town by 70 runs to seal a famous win. Overnight rain softened the wicket and with a tinge of green it was a tough call at the toss, with sunshine forecasted throughout the day.
Skipper Rhys Lloyd decided to bat first and openers Woolston and Rhodri Lloyd encountered a tricky opening 15 overs of seam and swing. After reaching their 50 partnership, Lloyd fell to Matthews. A spell of wickets soon fell before Tom Morris (41) and Jonty (50) took the game to Blackwood with some fine striking and contributed to Radyr posting a very decent 248 on a challenging wicket.
Blackwood in reply struggled against the opening pair of Corden and Wakeling losing early wickets and scoreboard pressure building. At the halfway point and 75-5 the game was well poised with Radyr buoyed by an excellent first 25. Herring (50+) and Matthews threatened to get Blackwood close but Mander (4 wickets and 3 catches), Lewis and Skip took the remaining wickets to seal a superb and morale boosting win for the home side. A very happy changing room after the game!
Next up a trip to Newbridge for the 1st X1.
The 2nd X1 travelled to Blackwood to take on their 2nd X1 counterparts and came away with a great win, successfully chasing down 194 to win by 6 wickets.
Winning the toss and inserting their hosts, RCC thanks to Clegg (8-3-13-3), Skirrow (6-0-39-3) and Razza (9-1-40-2) bowled Blackwood out for 194 in 41 overs.
In response Clegg and Skirrow saw Radyr home for a comfortable win with 5.4 overs to spare.
Another great performance from the 2nd XA securing 20 points to BTCC 6. Radyr are now 6th with 2nd place Newbridge next up at home.
The 3rd X1 welcomed Pencoed to the Riverside and recorded a crushing victory by 169 runs, having skittled the opposition for just 33 in 15 overs.
RCC won the toss and decided to have a bat and closed their 40 overs on 202-8. Pencoed really struggled in reply with wickets tumbling regularly before the inning’s came to a speedy conclusion after just 15 overs with the score on 33. A nice early finish for the 3rd X1 to enjoy a well deserved cold one and make the most of the sun watching the 1st X1 win.
26 points for RCC and second place in the table.
Next up for the 3rd X1 is a top of the table clash against league leaders Pontnewyndd 1st X1 away.
The 4th X1 travelled to Llandaff fields to take on Lisvane 4th X1 and completed the club clean sweep.
Winning the toss, Skipper Clode decided to take to the field and in their 40 overs Lisvane posted a competitive 185-3.
In reply however Radyr successfully reached their target for the loss of 4 wickets, Weight top scoring with 72 and Sully seeing the team home hitting an unbeaten 51.
22 points for RCC.
Next up for the 4th X1 are Crumlin CC 2nd X1.
