Last year a collection of enthusiastic mums, wives and girlfriends of club players decided to try their luck at the newly launched ECB women’s softball festivals. After just a couple of training sessions they travelled to Newbridge CC and represented Radyr in their first ever softball festival. It was an action packed afternoon and to the players amazement they found themselves playing in the final a great achievement on their debuts. Although the result didn’t go our way the players were well and truly hooked and spent the winter enticing friends and family members to give it a try.
Thanks to their efforts we were able to enter two teams into the first festival of the summer at Creigiau CC. Another wonderful afternoon was enjoyed by everyone and whilst we didn’t make it to the final we were thrilled to have recruited more players and be able to prepare for our very own festival at RCC.
On Sunday 13th May we welcomed teams from Blackwood, Creigiau and Newbridge to RCC to take part in our inaugural festival. Whilst the burgers sizzled and spectators lapped up the sunshine our two Radyr teams put on a spectacular display for the supporters and found themselves playing each other in the semi-final. As always only one team can go through to the final and on this occasion it was Radyr Revellers who faced Creigiau Chiefs (winners of the Creigiau festival). After a great effort by the team we weren’t quite strong enough to beat Creigiau Chiefs and they were crowned festival winners once again.
I think all our players will agree that these festivals are a great way to give cricket a go regardless of whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience. Above all they are a fun way to get some exercise, enjoy the outdoors, make new friends and enjoy yourselves. A whole host of festivals are planned over the summer at clubs across South Wales, if anyone would like to join us please email email@example.com
