On Thursday 23rd June RCC was a sight to behold as 27 teams of cricketers from across Cardiff and the Vale descended on the club to take part in competitions organised by Cricket Wales and Chance to Compete part of the Chance to Shine cricket charity.
In the Primary Schools National Kwik Cardiff Finals 12 teams attended and were made up of 8 mixed teams who played against each other and 4 girls’ teams who played separately. The teams were all made up of enthusiastic youngsters keen to try their luck and have a go at playing cricket. Although some teams were lucky enough to have club cricketers amongst them, many of the teams had players who were complete novices. This made for an exciting day that ultimately involved lots of fun and helped introduce cricket to lots of potential new players with many now keen to play in the future, which is always encouraging to hear.
As a club we are particularly proud of the girl’s team from Radyr Primary who won their group and are through to the South Wales final along with runners up from Ysgol Gymraeg Melin Gruffydd. The Radyr Primary team included 8 members from the club along with our very own U13 coach Simon Coley, our congratulations go to them all. We wish them all lots of luck when they compete in the South Wales final which will be played at the club on 6th July. Our congratulations also go the mixed team from Rhiwbina Primary who won their group and runners up from Ysgol Pencae who are both through to the South Wales final at SWALEC on 5th July.
The remaining 15 teams were all girls’ teams from U13 & U15 age groups who were trying their luck to qualify in the Cardiff and the Vale softball competition, the competition was open to all secondary schools from across the region. The South Wales final is now scheduled to be held at the club on Thursday 30th June.
